Retention

When we remove your braces, you will begin the retention stage of your treatment. Retainers are custom-made removable appliances designed to help keep your teeth in their new position. Dr. Martines will advise you on when to wear your retainer and for how long.

Many factors contribute to the stability of your bite. Everything from growth patterns to muscular adaptability, even finger-biting habits, can affect your dental future. Teeth also seem to remember where they came from and retainers are required to keep them from returning home.

Teeth are not rooted in cement, and the dynamics of your mouth determine how your teeth move after braces. Since we can’t get around your genetics, our philosophy is: retention for life (or for as long as you  want your teeth to remain straight).
